Abstract

AimsTo assess the reliability, relevance of the French version of InterRAI PC and test its feasibility in different settings of PC services' delivery.MethodsMulticenter Observational study was carried out on 568 adult patients from home, hospital and hospice PC. All patients were assessed with InterRAI PC which encompasses 264 items covering 16 domains including physical, spiritual, social and psychological aspects. Assessments were carried out at baseline, within 24 to 48 hours and at 7 days. Statistical analysis were performed for the floor and ceiling effects, the reproducibility and concurrent and convergent validity of InterRAI PC were assessed against to others tools usually used in PC: M. D. Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI), verbal rating scale (VRS) for pain and breathlessness and DN4.ResultsThe level of completion of InterRAI PC is better than other tools: missing data were fewer (0.2%) than those of MDASI (15%) or VRS (9%). Value of pain scale varied by setting, 30% of patients don't get an adequate pain relief. PC Unit' patients have more impairment of self-sufficiency in activities of daily living performance than others (p< 0.0001). The interrater reliability was good (kappa values of most of items ≥ 0.70). Breathlessness items of InterRAI PC were ccorrelated with VRS (ρ= 0.824) and MDASI (ρ= 0.6). Most health professionals (80%) reported that the items of InterRAI PC are relevant for PC planning and person-centered care and the assessment process increased the level of communication between team members.ConclusionsInterRAI PC is reliable for assessing patient' needs at different stages of PC trajectory and this comprehensive assessment is feasible in various PC settings. It should improve PC pathway and guarantee an efficient transition of the patients by facilitating the sharing of information in a common language across PC settings.
